How do you know what a light fitting will actually look like before you buy it?

What a photograph cannot tell you

Scale. A chandelier photographed alone against white has nothing to be measured against. The same fitting can look modest online and enormous once it is hanging over an actual dining table.

Colour temperature. A warm 2700K bulb and a cooler 4000K bulb can make an identical fitting feel like two different objects. Product photography is often shot, and then lightly corrected, in ways that flatten this difference entirely.

Finish under real light. Brass, chrome, and bronze all catch and throw light differently depending on what else is lit in the room. A finish that reads as elegant under a photographer's softbox can read as cold or garish under a standard living room bulb.

Presence when switched on. This is the one that photographs are structurally unable to show. A fitting's shadow pattern, its glow, the way it fills a room once switched on, none of this exists in a static image, however good the photograph is.

The only real test

There is one reliable way to know how a fitting will actually look: see it hanging, lit, at the scale it will be in your home. That is the entire premise behind a showroom, not a nicer way to shop, but the only way to genuinely answer the question before you commit.
