Chandeliers, Surrey — Seen Lit. Not Just Photographed.
Every chandelier in our Camberley showroom can be switched on and displayed exactly as it will look in your home. No guesswork. No surprises. Just the light itself.
The Problem With Buying a Chandelier Online
A chandelier is one of the most personal purchases you can make for your home. It anchors a room. It defines a ceiling. It changes the quality of light in a way no floor lamp or pendant ever can.
And yet most people buy them from a photograph.
A professional product photograph is shot under controlled studio lighting, designed to make the fitting look its best — not to show you what it actually does in a room. The scale is impossible to judge. The warmth of the light, the way crystal catches and scatters it, the shadow patterns it throws across your ceiling — none of this comes through on a screen.
This is the central problem with buying a chandelier online. And it is why customers drive from Guildford, Fleet, Farnham, Woking, Farnborough, Basingstoke and Winchester to visit us in Camberley.
Our Chandelier Showroom
Illuminations of Camberley has been Surrey's independent lighting specialist since 1971. At our showroom at 66–68 High Street, Camberley, GU15 3RS, every chandelier is displayed lit and switched on — exactly as it will appear installed in your home.
You can stand beneath it. You can see the quality of the light it casts. You can judge whether the scale works for your room, whether the finish suits your interior, whether the warmth of the bulbs feels right for the atmosphere you want to create.
This is something no website — however good — can offer.
Our team has over 100 years of combined experience in decorative lighting. They know every product by name, understand the technical details (ceiling height requirements, wiring considerations, dimmer compatibility, lumen output) and will spend as long as it takes to help you find the right chandelier for your space.
There is no pressure to buy. You are welcome to browse, bring your floor plans, your fabric swatches, your room dimensions — and we will work through the options with you.
Chandelier Styles We Display
We display chandeliers across a wide range of styles and price points, from classic crystal and traditional brass through to contemporary and statement designs. Brands we carry include RV Astley, Dar Lighting, Franklite, Endon, Searchlight Electric and others.
Crystal Chandeliers The most timeless of all chandelier styles. Crystal refracts light in a way no other material does — scattering points of light across ceilings and walls in a living, shifting pattern. Our crystal chandeliers range from understated bedroom pieces to grand dining room statements. See them lit and the effect is immediately apparent. On a website, it simply cannot be conveyed.
Brass and Antique Brass Chandeliers Warm, traditional and increasingly sought after for both classic and contemporary interiors. Antique brass works particularly well in older properties — Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian homes across Surrey and Hampshire where the proportions of the rooms call for something substantial. We carry antique brass chandeliers from RV Astley including the acclaimed Vienna range, alongside pieces from Franklite and Dar.
Contemporary Statement Chandeliers Not all chandeliers belong to a traditional aesthetic. Modern statement chandeliers — geometric forms, dramatic drops, sculptural designs — are increasingly popular in contemporary interiors across Surrey. We stock a range of contemporary designs that work in open-plan living spaces, double-height hallways and kitchen-diners.
Multi-arm Chandeliers The classic multi-arm chandelier remains one of the most versatile statement fittings available. Available in five, six, eight and twelve arm configurations, these work above dining tables, in entrance hallways and in drawing rooms. The key is proportion — and the only reliable way to judge proportion is to see the fitting in a space.
How to Choose the Right Chandelier
Choosing a chandelier involves more than aesthetics. Our team will help you consider:
Ceiling height. A chandelier hung too low is both impractical and visually wrong. A fitting hung too high loses impact. The standard guidance is that the bottom of the chandelier should sit 75–90cm above a dining table, and at least 210cm above floor level in a hallway or living room. For rooms with very high ceilings, the drop of the chandelier becomes a key design element in itself.
Scale and proportion. The diameter of the chandelier should relate to the size of the room and the dimensions of any furniture beneath it. As a guide, add the room's length and width in feet — that number in inches gives a good starting chandelier diameter. A 12 x 14 foot dining room suggests a chandelier of approximately 26 inches.
Light output. How bright do you need the room to be? A chandelier may be your primary light source or it may work alongside recessed downlights or wall lights. Our team will advise on lumen output and whether you need a dimmable fitting for full flexibility.
Dimmer compatibility. Most decorative chandeliers work best on a dimmer — the ability to adjust the light level is what gives a room its flexibility. Not all LEDs are dimmer compatible, and not all dimmers work with all LEDs. Our team can advise on compatible combinations.
Style and finish. The chandelier needs to work with your existing interior — your floor colour, your ceiling colour, your furniture finishes, your other light fittings. Bring photographs, swatches or samples. We work through these decisions with customers every day.
Why Customers Travel to Camberley
We are not the closest lighting shop to most of our customers. But we are consistently the one they recommend to others.
Customers come to us from Guildford (14 miles, approximately 20 minutes via A31 and A331), Fleet (8 miles via A323), Farnborough (4 miles via A325), Woking, Farnham, Aldershot, Basingstoke, Hook, Winchester, Andover, Reigate, Weybridge, Esher and beyond.
They come because seeing a chandelier switched on — really seeing it, standing beneath it in a room — is the only way to make a decision you will be happy with for the next twenty years.
They come because our staff know lighting in a way that a general retailer or an online catalogue cannot replicate.
And they come because there is no pressure. You can spend an hour in the showroom, ask every question you have, and leave without buying anything. That is absolutely fine. We would rather you made the right decision than a rushed one.
